Where We Live: The Past, Present, and Future of our Community
This final of a 4-part series will focus on some of South Florida’s culture and history that surrounds the Miami Shores community. Each Saturday, we will hear from a historian that focuses on a unique aspect of Florida’s history. The program will begin with a guided bus tour and lunch at the Red Rooster in Overtown. Week two will explore Florida’s Underground Railroad, and week three will screen a documentary of Overtown and the surrounding areas. Finally, the last week will bring the series together with a look at the past, present, and future of our community. Jacqui Colyer will close out the series with a discussion on the past, present, and future of our community. Her knowledge and insights will encourage attendees to reflect and discuss their role in our future and explore how the past sets an example for us to learn from. Instructor: Jacqui Colyer, avid learner, historian, and community advocate was born in Charleston, South Carolina, and reared in Miami, Florida.
